I Knew Ralph Agyapong Could Not Compete Me- Asenso Boakye Brags

Member of parliament for the Bantama constituency, Asenso Boakye has publicly spoken for the first time after winning against Ralph Agyapong in the recently held NPP parliamentary elections.

The Bantama constituency was one of the most talked about constituencies in the NPP parliamentary elections.

Asenso Boakye, who was the incumbent member of parliament for the Bantama was competing with Ralph Agyapong, the younger brother of his dearest enemy, Kennedy Agyapong.

Regardless of the many provocative campaigns on the side of Ralph Agyapong, the minister for works and Housing still won.

Asenso Boakye was able to get 650 votes which represents 78.22%, whilst Ralph Agyapong got 181 votes which also represents 21.78%.

Speaking in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Asenso Boakye said that he knew he would win because he never considered his opponent, Ralph Agyapong as a challenger.

According to him, doubling as a minister keeps him busy in Accra, however, he tries his best to visit Kumasi to pay a courtesy call to his constituents.

He attributed his success to the many developmental projects that have been done by him in his constituency.

He expressed shock at the votes and percentage he got because according to him, when he was coming for the first time and had a challenging opponent, he got the same percentage, so, with a competitor like Ralph Agyapong, he expected something better.

“I thought I was going to improve on the 78% I had during the 2020 elections because that was the time that contesting with the late Okyem Aboagye. I was fresh, and I had no record but when I was allowed to serve, I brought many development projects, which a lot of people thought were unprecedented. In terms of my community engagements, and community mobilization, it’s never happened before. Even though I was the MP for Bantama and was appointed a Minister which meant I had bigger responsibilities, I still had time to visit my constituency. I am almost always in Kumasi every weekend visiting my constituents and party people. I knew I had done a lot of work and I hoped I could poll a much bigger percentage but it didn’t happen,” he said.
