Kennedy Agyapong caused recent ‘Dumsor’ outages in Ghana – Opare Ansah –

Former Suhum MP Frederick Opare Ansah has blamed Presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party Kennedy Agyapong for causing the recent dumsor experienced by some parts of the country.

Large swaths of Ghana last week faced power blackouts due to reports of gas shortages at a major power facility, the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) said of the power outages. WAPCO had shut gas supply required for power generation, plunging parts of the country into darkness.

In an appearance on Peace FM Platform show, Opare Ansah said Kennedy Agyapong is the cause of the dumsor because he is Board Chairman of Ghana Gas.

“We experienced dumosr recently. Do you know the cause? It is not that we don’t have gas. We have gas. It is reverse flow from Takoradi to Tema. We don’t have reverse flow. WAGPCO they carry our gas for us and we cannot pay them. We owe them 20million dollars.” He said.

“You [Kennedy Agyapong] are the chairman of Ghana Gas by this time you should have put in plans to develop our own gas pipeline infrastructure” he added.

It is emerging that the government has reached a tentative payment plan with WAPCO to settle $20 million owed by the state.

Per sources, although an agreement has been reached, some outages are expected to happen since the agreement does not guarantee that there will be gas from Takoradi to Tema in the interim.

“So ECG has to pay WAPCo but unfortunately because for almost 13 months now the cash waterfall mechanism where all the monies that ECG collects after selling power is put for it to be distributed among the utility mechanism is no longer working, ECG is unable to pay the liability,” he explained.
