Court Dismisses Gyakye Quayson’s Contempt Application Against K.T. Hammond |

The Criminal Division of the High Court in Accra has dismissed a contempt application filed by the MP for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson against the Minister for Trade and Industry, KT Hammond.

This was after the court ruled that the application has no merit.

The application was in response to comments made by KT Hammond against Quayson’s criminal trial they deem contemptuous.

Lawyers for James Gyakye Quayson, the MP, for Assin North on July 7 this year filed a contempt application against the Minister for Trade and Industry, KT Hammond, who is also the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa.

The application was on the basis that, the Trades Minister had said in an interview that, Gyakye Quayson will go to prison even though the case is still pending before the High Court.

When the court constituted on Thursday, Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzu dismissed the application on the basis that it lacked merit.

Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, in her ruling, clarified that the full context of what KT Hammond is reported to have said had not been adequately presented by Quayson’s legal team.
