Dr. George Akuffo Dampare says he has forgiven his accusers, COP Alex Mensah and Supt. George Asare who are before a Parliamentary Committee for allegedly conspiring to remove him from office.
The senior Police officers have leveled allegations against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), accusing him of mismanaging the Police Service, mistreating officers, engaging in acts of nepotism and working against the ruling New Patriotic Party to cause them to lose the 2024 elections among other accusations.
Dr. Dampare was invited by the Committee for questioning after being accused of masterminding the secret recording of the senior officers and leaking it to the public.
This allegation was made by COP Alex Mensah who insisted before the Committee that the IGP possesses the original audio.
Honoring the invitation by the Committee and appearing before it on Tuesday, September 12, the IGP refuted all the allegations and expressed his hurtful feelings over the behavior of the officers who he described as his brothers.
Dr. Dampare however indicated to the Committee that he has no hatred for his brothers for slandering him saying “as a human being like all of us, when your own brothers have done what they did and instead of owing up and taking responsibility and probably apologizing for us to move on, they try to cook baseless allegation and level it and smear it against you and without a shred of evidence like I said earlier on, you have been asked to speak to it”.
He continued; “But who am I? There is nothing that I can do about it and if I feel bad, it is to some extent by the Christian that I am, forgiveness is a medicine and that is what I have just eaten; I’ve drunk by going to my brothers and just letting them know that, as far as I’m concerned, whatever that they have done, it’s not an issue to me because the Lord that I serve keep comforting me in a manner that is beyond my comprehension.”
“We have Police institutional structures to deal with anybody who has a complaint which I know they don’t have except that the shame that has come upon them, they are trying to twist it and divert attention. We allow them to go on that fishing expedition, acting as octopuses in their quest to find something by whatever means to affect my person and my integrity. Honorable Chair, we need to look at this carefully because that is not fair. Having said that, I don’t have any tape. I don’t know about it and they should stop it…I feel no hatred, pain or whatever towards them. They are my brothers”, he iterated.
