Akosua Manu
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Akosua Manu, has filed her nomination to contest the parliamentary primaries of Adentan Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
She filed her nomination at the Adentan Constituency Office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday, July 17, 2023 when she submitted the signed forms to the party amidst drumming, shouting, and merry making by her teeming supporters.
The forms were received by the Adentan Constituency Chairman, Koku Acolatse, Chairman of the Constituency Election Vetting Committee, Richard Ofori-Yeboah and Constituency Secretary, Cobby Bediako.
Mr. Acolatse told the entourage that they are aware of the quality of person Akosua Manu is, and what she’s representing by putting herself forward.
He noted that “the quality that we are seeing these days will surely deliver the victory, Insha Allah! So the NDC should be prepared.”
Chairman of the Constituency Vetting Committee, Obiri-Yeboah, advised the contenders and their supporters to conduct themselves decorously to ensure that party unity is maintained, come the end of the contest.
Akosua Manu thanked the party for the opportunity given her to contest for the parliamentary seat.
She said, “I am grateful and humbled for the support given me. Victory is assured.”
Aspiring parliamentary candidates interested in contesting in constituencies where the party currently has no parliamentary representation, otherwise known as orphan constituencies have from Tuesday, July 11, 2023, to Thursday, August 10, 2023, to file their nominations.
The elections are expected to take place between Saturday, September 23, 2023, and Saturday, December 2, 2023.
Nomination forms can be obtained at a non-refundable application fee of GH₵¢3,000 in a banker’s draft payable to NPP national headquarters in Accra.
Filing a nomination requires an aspiring parliamentary candidate to submit a non-refundable fee of GH¢35,000 in a banker’s draft payable to the NPP national headquarters.
However, to promote increased representation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in higher political offices, such aspiring parliamentary candidates will enjoy a 50% rebate of the filing fees, which means they will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of GH¢17,500.
All payments must be made in a banker’s draft payable to the party. The party’s leadership has emphasised that no aspiring parliamentary candidate would be denied access to purchasing nomination forms.
