Eddie Howe responds to Newcastle’s Dean Henderson transfer links after Man Utd decision

Eddie Howe insists Newcastle are not close to agreeing a transfer for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson despite reports suggesting a deal is imminent.

Henderson, 25, has been limited to three appearances for United this season – none of which have come in the Premier League – and is desperate to get back to playing regular first-team football. He finds himself firmly behind David de Gea in the pecking order at Old Trafford, so a move away appears the only means of securing the minutes he craves.

The Englishman knows a summer exit will be of paramount importance if he is to nail down a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar this winter. There was positive news for Henderson earlier this week as he travelled to Newcastle for talks with St James’ Park chiefs over a transfer.

That was according to the Manchester Evening News , which claimed the player was closing in on a loan move but that a permanent switch had not been ruled out. However, Howe has distanced himself from such speculation by insisting the Magpies are not expecting any arrivals imminently.

“We’re not close to signing anybody at this moment at time,” the 44-year-old told reporters on Friday. “We’re not at any advanced stage with that. It’s very difficult for me to comment on individual players because I’d be giving you an answer on every target, but that’s far from the truth.”

Howe had more to say regarding Aston Villa defender Matt Targett, who has spent the second half of the season on loan on Tyneside. Newcastle have an option to buy the 26-year-old for £15million this summer, according to the Shields Gazette, and he is set to hold talks with the Newcastle boss after the trip to Burnley on the final day of the Premier League campaign.

Would Dean Henderson be a good signing for Newcastle? Have your say in the comments!

“I’ll be sitting down with my players at the end of the season and discussing future,” Howe said, adding: “I’ll be doing the same with Matt. He’s been outstanding. [The] Biggest compliment I can play any loan player is that I view him as an integral member of the squad.”

Newcastle sit 12th in the table heading into their clash with the Clarets, who are sure to put up an enormous fight at Turf Moor as they battle to avoid relegation as Leeds’ expense. While Howe has done a fine job to steer the Magpies 11 points clear of the drop zone with one game to play, much more will be expected of him next season if he receives financial backing this summer having spent £90million during the January window.

Two people are dead and another eight wounded following a shooting near a fast food restaurant in Chicago that sent bystanders scattering, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 10:40 pm Thursday near a McDonald’s on the city’s Near North Side, a few blocks from the city’s Magnificent Mile shopping district. One person was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered, police said in statement.

Details about what led to the shooting weren’t immediately released by police, but a witness, Deonna Jackson, 18, said the shooting appeared to stem from a fight outside the restaurant.

“When the fight first started, we were right next to them,” Deonna Jackson, 18, told the Chicago Sun-Times. ”We had to run because I didn’t want anyone to swing on me.”

The shooting comes amid a surge in deadly violence in the city in recent years. And it follows a deadly shooting last weekend in downtown Chicago’s Millennium Park that killed a teen and led the city to tighten a curfew for young people as part of efforts to curb violence.

As paramedics and officers responded Thursday, a fight erupted between two people across the street from the scene of the shooting, the Chicago Tribune reported, and some people crossed a line of police tape and argued with officers before they were moved away.

‘No possibility’ Klopp gambles with Salah’s readiness for Golden Boot fight with Son.

0

Jurgen Klopp comprehends Mohamed Salah would be quick to play on the last day of the Premier League season and secure the Golden Boot, however neither Liverpool nor the player will face any challenges with his wellness.

Salah supported a crotch injury in Liverpool’s FA Cup last win over Chelsea last end of the week and missed the midweek triumph at Southampton that saves the Reds in conflict for the title.

There could yet be a twofold festival for Klopp’s men on Sunday, with City only one point ahead while Salah (22 objectives) barely drives Son Heung-min (21) in the scoring outlines.

Be that as it may, given Liverpool additionally have the Champions League last against Real Madrid to consider the last week, they must be certain Salah is fit to play.

The winger – who has been assigned for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year, close by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher and Declan Rice – isn’t the cup champs’ just physical issue concern by the same token.

Virgil van Dijk (knee) was likewise harmed at Wembley, while Fabinho (hamstring) limped out of the earlier match against Aston Villa. Joe Gomez, who has a background marked by genuine wounds, had a lower leg issue at Southampton.

“Joe has uplifting news,” Klopp expressed in front of Sunday’s match against Wolves. “We need a consoling further output, however the first was like he and we thought after the game – we were fortunate.

“It was an appropriate thump, yet all at once nothing occurred. It’s the leg where he was harmed, so I comprehend 100% everybody was concerned; I was, until I saw Joe’s face in the changing area, on the grounds that more often than not we know best about our body.

“The consequence of this [second] examine hasn’t arrived at this point, yet we expect nothing truly unique. It’s just about consoling it’s all fine.

“And afterward from that point, we go. In the event that it’s fine, it’s about aggravation: how might he manage torment? We’ll see what Joe can do today or tomorrow, yet I don’t be aware right now.

“With the other young men, it looks all around great. How we manage them at the end of the week, I can’t understand.

“I comprehend 100% the goalscoring fight with Son Heung-min, yet there is no possibility we face any challenge; Mo would rather not face any challenge, there’s no question about that.

“In any case, it looks great, the young men made advances. We will see.

“My favored arrangement would be they all could play at the end of the week, for cadence reasons, stuff like this, or if nothing else could be on the seat and we could welcome them on or not. Be that as it may, on the off chance that not, then we take it from that point. I can’t say 100%.”
