President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described as “spectacular”, the Planting for Food and Jobs programme following its introduction in April last year.

Meeting the Press to account for his stewardship after three years in office, the President said in the last two years, the country has seen bumper harvests because of the introduction of planting for food and jobs.

President Akufo-Addo said his government came into office on the back of a very poor economic performance by the previous government and it was based on this that Ghanaians voted massively for him.

The programme, he noted, has resulted in an increase in yields of maize and rice.

“We are working towards feeding ourselves, so we don’t have to be dependent on aid or grants. We are building the capacity of our local farmers by giving them the necessary inputs to grow their businesses,” he said.
