Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh and the Chairman of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Council, Michael Nsowah, has been asked to immediately apologise to striking teacher unions for their unfortunate comments against the teachers.
According to Ghana’s former High Commissioner to India, Sam Pee Yalley, the comments from these two leaders were disappointing and should be condemned as soon as practicable.
“I am very disappointed in the Education Minister and the GES Council chairman for attacking the teachers for demanding what is due them. Our teachers are very precious to us and so we don’t have to allow them to die poor,” he said.
“With that I want to urge Matthew Opoku-Prempeh and Michael Nsowah to apologise to the teachers because issues such as salary arrears should not be treated lightly at all. Our teachers need to be treated with respect,” he said on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem ,Thursday.
The Education Minister, who is popularly known as Napo, is reported to have accused the striking teachers of allowing the opposition National Democratic Congress to influence them.
The Chairman of the GES Council, Mr Nsowah on the other hand in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, threatened that should the teachers continue their action, the State would be forced to employ new teachers.
