Perseus Mining Ghana Limited, has donated a Toyota Helix Pickup Truck as well as other car components to the Takoradi Technical Institute.

This follows an appeal from the Principal of Takoradi Technical institute, who requested the mine to provide a vehicle to facilitate teaching and learning in the institute. Perseus Mining Ghana Limited also known as the Edikan Gold Mine, recognizing that government alone couldn’t shoulder the task of driving development everywhere in the country decided this cause was worth pursuing.

Known for its passion for education, the Edikan Mines through the Edikan Trust Fund has embarked on several of such projects in the communities in which it operates. Perseus has already built five schools, 2 clinics with a third one still under construction and has given about 200 exceptional, under privileged children scholarships or bursary towards their studies.

As such, the provision and presentation of the Vehicle to the Takoradi Technical Institute as well as other vehicle components is another step in showcasing its support for the improvement of education while raising the confidence of the students in working with the items donated and its components.

The Director of Sustainability at Perseus Mining Ghana Limited, Edwin Allotey Acquaye, expressed his hope that the donation will make the practical work of the students a lot easier.

“It is our hope that these things that we are donating would go a long way, to facilitate teaching and learning in the institution so that one day when we are looking for very competent mechanics or technicians to assist in the mines and other mining companies and industries, we would know that the best would be coming from the Takoradi Technical Institute”.

Perseus Mining Ghana Limited, with a history of employing locals has already engaged former students of the Takoradi Technical Institute.

Mr. Acquaye stated “We are very happy to have been associated with this institution, we already have some products of your school who work with us. The company has already employed some former students of TTI”

The principal of TTI Samuel Obeng Peprah was grateful for the gesture and vowed that the hard-working teaching and non-teaching staff, PTA, OLD students’ association as well as the SRC would ensure that the vehicle and donated components will be used for its intended purpose.

Commissioned in May of 2012 and Occupying an area in both the Central and Western regions, the Edikan Mine operates in five catchment communities namely Ayanfuri, Abenabena Fobinso, Gyaman and Nkonya. The Edikan Mine has spent approximately 8.6million Cedis in educational and other developmental projects in all the catchment communities as well as communities in which they carry out exploration activities.
