A
total of 57,030 candidates have filed nominations with the Electoral Commission
(EC) to contest the upcoming district level elections across 16 regions in the
country.

A
total of 17,601 males are expected to contest to become assembly members while
there are a total of 909 women involved.

For
the Unit Committee Election, a total of 34,769 men are to contest while 3,751

The Electoral Commission (EC) has said the December 17, 2019 District Assembly and Unit Committee elections is going on as scheduled after the accompanying referendum, which could have triggered an amendment of  certain aspects of the 1992 Constitution to pave way for political parties to sponsor candidates at local level election, was cancelled by the President last Sunday.
