Mamaga Akosua I, Paramount Queen
Mother of SASADU, has fulfilled her promise to build a safer and more secure
modern classroom block for Alavanyo in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta
Region.
The SASADU is a union among the
people of Saviefe, Akrofu, Sovie and Alavanyo communities.
Mamaga Akosua, a German known in
private life as Cornelia Von Wuelfing, added the school to her many
contributions in health, education and socio-economic development.
The Alavanyo-Kpeme Roman Catholic
Basic School was done with support from other German donors and the German
Embassy in Ghana.Â
The relocated and gated classroom
block, which comes with a play area, offices, staff room, IT laboratory and a
library, replaces a ramshackle structure built in 1824 on the outskirts of the
town near Nkonya, a rival community over a century-old land dispute.Â
Mamaga Akosua, who is also the
Ngoryinyornufiaga (Development Queen Mother) of Alavanyo believed the project
would consolidate the peace process between Alavanyo and Nkonya, which had seen
her institute school feeding and other projects in the two traditional areas.
She announced a women empowerment
programme for women in the two areas to ensure they unite through joint
self-help projects.
In a citation to honour Mamaga Akosua,
the Paramount Chief of Alavanyo, Togbega Tsedze-Atakora VII, commended her for
bringing ‘joy and dignity’ to the people of Alavanyo through her
benevolence.Â

Mother of Alavanyo who chaired the function, was hopeful that the school which
is christened the Niklas and Basti R.C. Basic School would produce world-class
students who would continue to uphold, peace, unity and development.
The Hohoe MCE, Teddy Ofori, said the
school would contribute greatly to the government’s desire to ensure all
children go to school.
