The
youth of Gwira Asonti in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region have
highly commended their Member of Parliament (MP), Catherine Abelema Afeku, for
being development-oriented, saying she should be retained as MP to continue her
good works.
At
the official inauguration of ‘Concerned Youth of Asonti for Catherine’ (COYAC),
Vice-President of the group, Christopher Asamaning, urged the good people of
Evalue-Gwira Ajomoro Constituency to rally behind the MP to continue to develop
the area.
He
described Catherine Afeku as a hard-working minister who had championed the
setting up of a modern DVLA office in the Nzema East Municipality.
He
pointed out that the NPP government was constructing a sea defence project and
a fishing harbour in the area and Ms. Afeku had been instrumental in helping to
bring massive projects to the area. He added that the projects were creating
direct and indirect jobs for the youth of the area.
“Even
though the residents of Asonti have been voting for the NDC since 1992, the
people have now realized that the constituency was seeing more developmental
projects under the current NPP government,” he said.
He,
therefore, pleaded with the constituents to put their ‘political colours’ aside
and support Ms. Afeku to develop the area to improve the living standards of
the people.
He
expressed optimism that Ms. Afeku would retain the Evalue-Adjomoro Gwira
Constituency seat in 2020 to set a record of being the first sitting MP to win
the seat back to back since 1992.
The
minister assured the youth that the Akufo-Addo government was determined to
ensure equitable distribution of national resources in every part of the
country, saying the NPP government was fulfilling all the promises it made to
the people of Nzema East prior to the 2016 general elections.
The
MP said she had managed to connect Gwira-Eshiem, Bamianko, Kutukrom, Gwira-Banso
and Gwira-Asonwah to telecommunication networks, and added that Gwira Asonti
would soon be connected under the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic
Communications (GIFEC).
The
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Frank Okpeyen, commended the MP
for developing the Gwira area more than any MP since 1992.
