GWCL says efforts are underway to find alternative sources of water
About three million residents of Accra will have no access to potable water after a 36inch transmission pipeline burst on the main Mallam-Gwawe road.
Though investigations are underway to establish the cause of the damage, the Ghana Water Company says preliminary findings reveal that some weighty structures along the pipeline are to blame.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Water Company, Stanley Martey in an interview advised residents to store water ahead of today’s repair works.
He added that efforts are underway to find alternative sources of water.
“We’ve had to shut down the treatment plant to enable us to repair the line. Water cannot be flowing through the lines while we repair it because the pressures are very high. We are working around the clock to ensure that by close of day Wednesday 16th October we should be able to complete the job and restore supply.
Areas to be affected include Odorkor, Dansoman, Mamprobi, Agege, Korle Bu area, Korle Gonno, Lartebiokoshie.
The rest are Mataheko, Russia, North Kaneshie, Russia, James Town, Abekah Lapaz, Ablekuma, Mallam and Gbawe.
