Greater Accra NABCO Marks 1st Anniversary

The Greater Accra wing of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) has commenced its first anniversary celebration.

It has also expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Addressing journalists at the Information Ministry on Thursday, October 10, 2019, to mark the commencement of its celebration in the region, Coordinator of NABCO in the Greater Accra Region, Mohammed Baba Darison, outlined the key activities his outfit has embarked on over the period.

According to the Coordinator, a year on from the official launch of the programme, many trainees are enjoying the benefits of the three-year work and learn programme.

About 31,809 trainees in the region are working and learning under all seven modules, he stated.

“I am happy to say that we are encouraged by the positive testimonies of our partners about the conduct and performance of our trainees,” he said.

NABCO Greater Accra held interviews in 26 operational districts, he said.

The NABCO programme was initiated to address the increasing problem of graduate unemployment in Ghana.

It was launched by President Nana Addo in May 2018 to provide 100,000 jobs to Ghanaians.

Mr. Darison acknowledged the efforts of all NABCO’s partners especially its Module Implementation Partners (MIPs), MMDCEs, Labour, you our brothers and sisters of the fourth estate, and the entire Ghanaian society for accepting and nurturing NABCO over the last one year.

“Nation building is not an easy task, but we are here today to celebrate our collective efforts aimed at building and empowering the human infrastructure of our country with emphasis on Greater Accra,” he said.

“There is no doubt that GRA, one of the major module implementation partners for the Revenue Ghana Module, is impressed with the quality of work NABCO trainees are doing,” he said.

“Thankfully, GRA is not the only organisation with good words for NABCO. Indeed, some Heal Ghana trainees in greater Accra have been selected for permanent employment by the Ghana Health Service for the good work they have been doing for our country in hospitals and clinics in Accra.”

The Ghana Education Service has also decided to permanently employ some Educate Ghana trainees after assessing their skills and performance, according to him.

“As we speak, NABCO trainees placed with the Greater Accra Directorate of the National Youth Authority are occupying positions such as Acting District Heads, Project officers, Program officers, Administration officers, Accounts Officers and District secretaries,” he noted.

Confidence

He added that “this clearly shows the confidence our partners have in NABCO and our trainees to help build our nation for a better future.”

“Our Feed Ghana Trainees placed with the Department of Agriculture are providing General extension services by disseminating improved technologies to farmers and processors as they visited them in their homes and farms,” he observed.

“They also assist in mobilizing farmers into groups to enable them reach large numbers with technologies. Others are Market Extension Agents carrying out educational programmes in the market centers on post-harvest management and food safety,” he said.

“Feed Ghana trainees are also engaged as Market enumeration officers and veterinary officers to collect data on food commodity prices and carry out surveillance and vaccination programmes respectively.”

“We also have some trainees undertaking Administrative, Accounts, Procurement and stores duties for the Department of Agric,” he said.
