Mavis Akolbila, a young mother of two children, has been found dead in a pool of blood after being assaulted by her husband at Janjori Kukuo in the Nanton District of the Northern Region.
William Akolbila, 26, husband of the deceased, is reported to have abused his wife and wanted to forcibly have sex with her and when she refused, the husband went mad and beat her up mercilessly, stabbing her with a kitchen knife multiple times in the process.
Confirming the incident, the Savelugu Municipal Police Commander, DSP Twumasi Ankrah, said they received a distress call around 1:46 pm on Friday from the Janjori Kukuo community, where the couple lived, and the police quickly rushed to the crime scene.
“When we arrived, we found the body of the deceased in a pool of blood with multiple knife wounds. The husband was in severe pains, as his penis was chopped off in their room,” he recounted.
“We retrieved two kitchen knives from the room with blood stains so we suspect the wife denied the husband sex and the husband tried to force her leading to the incident,” he added.
According to DSP Ankrah, William had been admitted to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for medical attention, while the body of Mavis had been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
He disclosed that police would make further investigation into the matter.
