Railway University to start enrollment before close of year

The Minister for Railways Development, Joe Ghartey says the Railway University at Ketan in the Western Region would commence enrollment before the end of the year to train human resource to build the railway infrastructure.

The Minister, who said this while addressing the Kuntum festival of the chiefs and people of Essikado Traditional Area, said the Ministry has completed the rehabilitation works of the Railway Training School into a University status and only waiting for UMaT to finish the accreditation soon.

“We have finished rehabilitating the railways training school and we are ready to start to take students this year and to start the university in Essikado Ketan… All that is left is the University of Mines and Technology to finish the intellectual work so that we will be able to start the university this year.”

In 2018, the Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Mines and Technology to commence both certificate, diploma and degree programmes beginning 2018/19 academic year.

The MOU was seen as the first step in turning the defunct railway training school into a centre of railway engineering courses and eventually what was envisioned as the University of Railways and Infrastructural Development.
