Over 1000 protesters on Thursday stormed the Government House, Owerri, demanding that the immediate past Governor Rochas Okorocha be probed for allegedly looting up to N200 billion worth of state funds and assets.

Town unions of 645 autonomous communities in Imo State, leaders and members of some socio-cultural organisations and students’ bodies, among others made up the protesters.

The protest was led by the president of the Imo State Indigenous Town Unions, Emeka Diwe.

Governor Emeka Ihedioha has been tasked with the responsibility to recover all plundered state resources.

The protesters asked that lands which the Rochas Foundation College, WODDI Wellness Centre and The Reach FM, belonging to Okorocha’s wife and daughter, were built on, should be taken back immediately.

“During Okorocha’s administration, Imo went through untold financial haemorrhage, as resources were frittered away and public assets looted and converted to personal use.

“As if that was not enough, Okorocha so cruelly plunged the state into irredeemable debts amounting to over N200 billion, a debt stock that will still be paid even by 10 generations unborn,” they said.

Ihedioha, however, asked protesters to channel their grievances with the state’s security operatives and that his administration would adopt lawful measures to address the many issues.
