An Association called ‘Nana
and Bawumia Movement (NABA)’ has thrown its support behind Lydia Alhassan, wife
of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency
in the Greater Accra Region, to win the parliamentary seat on the ticket of  the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the
upcoming by-election following the demise of the MP.

The Chairman of NABA,
Paul Amaning, explained that the Association aims at supporting all parliamentary
candidates to win elections in every constituency.

“We visited Lydia
Alhassan to motivate her. We will support her during her campaign. We will do
everything possible for her to win the seat,” he stressed.

Vera Owiredu,
Communications Director of the Association, also pleaded with party supporters
when they visited the family at their Ayawaso residence to support the family
to give the late MP a befitting burial. He stressed the need for them to come
out in their numbers to make sure Lydia Alhassan wins the by-election.

A patron of the group, Edward
Agyekum Kufuor, asserted that with the majority rallying behind Lydia Alhassan,
she is the right person to lead the party, adding that they would provide her
with all the support she would need since their priority at Ayawaso West is to
protect their seat.

The widow, who has been
tipped by many to lead the NPP in the by-election, pleaded with Ghanaians to
pray for her deceased husband and the family and asked for their continuous
support before, during and after the funeral which is slated for January 26,
this year.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency is seen as a safe seat for the governing NPP since it first took the seat in 2000. Three successive MPs from the NPP namely George Isaac Amoo, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and the late Agyarko have all won the seat previously.
