The recent trend of ‘doom prophecies’ from some pastors in the country has courted the outrage of many Ghanaians including top men of God have condemned the trend and described it as morally wrong. For many, their concern is the fact that the ‘prophetic gift’ is being abused by the ‘so called’ men of God who are using all sort of ‘imaginative threats’ to create fright.

Immediate past Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, known for his rather ‘strict’ stance on a lot of issues has added his voice.

Speaking at the Agape House New Testament Church in East Legon, Accra on Saturday, Prof. Martey rebuked church leaders uttering ‘false prophesies’ they claim to have come from God.

The man of God said prophets who engage in such act do so to create fear and panic in the country as well as extort monies from people.

Professor Martey however expressed his amazement at the way Ghanaians ‘gullibly’ receive these prophecies without weighing the import of their statements rationally and in link with the word of God.

‘’ I’m amazed at the gullibility of Ghanaians… eh I don’t want to die then let me go to him to pray for me, you are going for a curse… not a prayer’’.

‘’ there are some people who will say ok bring four tubers of yam, chicken two white,… some will say even add tomatoes, then they will say add two hundred and fifty… it’s not day break wake up!’’, he said.

In earlier publications, some pastors came out to reveal death prophesies about certain celebrities in the entertainment industry, most notably Shatta Wale and Ebony.

Founder and Leader of True Word Prophetic Fire Ministry, Prophet Nigel Gaisie prophesied the death of songstress Ebony Reigns in November 2017. Other Prophets including Kumchacha and Owusu Bempah have also predicted the demise of government officials and celebrities in recent times.

In the case of the late Ebony, her manager Bullet had stated that though some precautions were taken to avert the death, the unfortunate happened and the dancehall artist died on her way back from a visit to her mother in Sunyani.

Dancehall artist Shatta Wale has also lashed out at the prophets predicting his premature demise.
