Goosie Tanoh56.jpegNDC flagbearer hopeful, Augustus ‘Goosie’ Tanoh

Presidential nominee hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Goosie Tanoh, has admonished members of his political party not to repeat the mistakes of the party prior to the 2016 general elections which he says caused the defeat of the party after eight years in government.

According to Goosie Tanoh, many Ghanaians especially independent voters, rejected the NDC during the 2016 polls simply because they felt the party was not palatable to voters, including its own members.

He argued that the party leadership were perceived to have “thrown away” the party’s founding principles of probity and accountability, social justice, grassroots empowerment, grassroots participation in decision making and assumed “a foreign culture” that are aliens to the values of the party.

Mr. Tanoh, who between 1991 and 1993 was Chairman of the Forum for Sustainable Development (FSD), the body that put together the original NDC constitution, defined its values and emblems and organized its first congress, indicated that the denial of the founding principles by some party leaders led to loss of confidence of mass base and independent voters.

Speaking at separate meetings with delegates at Ashaiman, Tema West, Tema Central, Tema East constituencies as part of his second leg of campaign tour to the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Tanoh said “in 2016, Ghanaians told us they don’t want us (NDC), NDC people themselves did not go and vote because what they had seen over the last few years was enough, they said enough is enough.”

He continued “they threw away the branches, you will be in your community, people are mobilizing you don’t know who they are but you are a branch chairman or a constituency chairman.”

On polling day, NDC polling agents were not given lunch so some left polling stations to look for food and you know what happened. Our own people deserted us and we must not make those mistakes in 2020.”

He stated “in 2016 voters said NDC did not have a good character so they should go back home (opposition) and correct their mistakes, if you keep doing the same thing over and over and expect to get a different result, you are deceiving yourself.”

Goosie Tanoh, a founding member of the NDC who was very instrumental in the formation of the party, has therefore appealed to the party members to chart a new path by electing him as the party’s new flag bearer to restore the lost principles of the party.

He indicated that anytime the NDC had been faithful to its original founding principles, the party had won national elections convincingly and that leaders of the party over the last few years had betrayed those core values. There is an urgent need for restoration of those morals in the party, he added.

“Vote for me, Goosie Tanoh and let’s build a new NDC and a new Ghana,” Goosie Tanoh, a Rawlings look-alike told delegates at Tema Central on Sunday.

He reiterated the need to reward the grassroots members when the party is in power contrary to the reversed.

Goosie Tanoh also denounced vote-buying and corruption, and encouraged delegates to support the efforts at re-energizing the party’s grassroots by paying their party dues to support activities of the party both in government and out of government.

The Late Rev David NabegmadoThe late Rev David Nabegmado

Family members of an Assemblies of God pastor, Rev. David Nabegmado, who was stabbed to death by his nephew are discounting claims their deceased relative was engaged in human sacrifices.

The suspect, Francis Nabegmado, has confessed to the crime but justified same, claiming the deceased had targeted to use him for rituals.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Dan Makandan urged the public to disregard what he describes as an erroneous impression created by the suspect in the viral video.

“Nabegmado family distances itself from an alleged statement made by Francis. Rev [David] Nabegmado is a genuine man of God who is humble and down to earth,” he told Joy News, Monday.

Rev Nabegmado was stabbed multiple times by Francis while he was preparing to deliver his sermon on Sunday.

He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his stab wounds before he could be attended to.

The perpetrator of the crime was pursued by some members of the community and accosted after he attempted to escape in a taxi.

Francis Nabegmado in an audio circulating on social media said to be extracted from his statement to the police after committing the crime, claimed he killed Rev. Nabegmado because he was not practising what he preached.

The suspect sounding incoherent in his statement also alleged the man of God was responsible for the deaths of some family members and church members and hence his decision to put an end to these.

“He himself knows that today is the final day for all of us and I decided to come with this knife and with turpentine and matches,” he said, revealing his next action was to take some items in his possession and set them ablaze after killing him before he was accosted.

But the family spokesperson, Mr Makandan said the deceased “…was an asset not only to the family but the church and Ghana as a whole. The family is deeply saddened by the turn of events and requests the public to disregard all statement made to tarnish the image of an accomplished man of God.”

RB Leipzig have entered the race to sign Ghanaian youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea during the January transfer window.

Bayern Munich are very keen on the 18-year-old with reports claiming the Bundesliga champions had already bid £13million.

However, Leipzig are looking to bring in a wide man but due to their limited transfer budget, are looking to recruit a forward with a smaller price-tag.

Chelsea will only listen to offers over £22.5million for Hudson-Odoi as Bayern were believed to have launched an unsuccessful bid of £20m for the youngster.

Bayern and Leipzig are also joined by Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund in the chase for Hudson-Odoi.

31Dec Boards31st December has turned into a creativity battle among the charismatic churches

December 31st Watch Night Services are annual rituals in which Christians across the world gather at their local churches to pray and encounter God.

It is also a time to ask for God’s forgiveness and pray for divine guidance, protection and spiritual empowerment to sustain them for the coming years.

In Ghana, the program has turned into a creativity battle among the charismatic churches after the Founder and Leader of the International Central Gospel Church Dr Mensah Otabil started holding his program at the Sports Stadium with the highly publicised CROSS OVER caption. His event has become a staple for many Christians throughout the country.

However, the original December 3ist Watch Night is now abandoned by many of these charismatic churches thus replacing it with captions most suitable for them with giant billboards that display photos of founders and special guests.

Some say the size of these billboards reflect the church’s financial status, and are mounted at strategic locations. Others say churches compete to see which congregation can outdo the other.

Rev Paul Frimpong MansoRev Prof Frimpong Manso, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God signs the book of condolences

The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church, Rev Prof Paul Frimpong-Manso has expressed concern about how the media was contributing to tarnishing the reputation of the killed head pastor of the Assemblies of God Church at Tema Community four.

At a meeting with church leaders and the family of the deceased on Monday, Rev Prof Frimpong Manso said the publication of the “unverified” statements and wild allegations by the suspect who has not been checked to see if he was of sound mind was a problem.

Rev Prof Paul Frimpong-Manso expressed disappointment at publications that the slain Pastor, Rev Dr David Mankrom Nabegmado was an idol worshipper.

He questioned why some media houses published the unverified confession statement by the suspect saying the move was an attempt to malign the deceased.

In an emotional address to church leaders and the family of the deceased at the church premises at Tema on Monday, Rev Prof Frimpong-Manso said the frivolous claims by the suspect aimed at tarnishing the image of the slain pastor should not have been broadcasted by the media.

“A suspect made wild allegations which have not been verified while his state of mind has also not been checked yet, the media put out the claims as though they were facts”, Prof Frimpong-Manso said.

He wondered how the slain Pastor who joined the church at age 14, went through teachings and subsequently joining the ministry to become a pastor could be an idol worshipper.

“Not only do these reports go to tarnish the image of the slain pastor who was a peace-loving and kind person but also goes to dent the image of the church as a whole”, Rev Frimpong-Manso stated.

Recounting how he heard the news, the General Superintendent stated that he heard of the news while on an evangelism mission in Kumasi and that the church was in a state of shock.

Media must grow

He expressed regret that while the church and family were in pain and mourning their departed, the media was inflaming and capitalising on the “unverified” claims by the suspect, Francis Nabegmado who is presently in police custody.

“I can vouch that the late Rev David was never an idol worshipper but a true man of God as such, claims in the recordings making round ought to be disregarded”, Prof Frimpong-Manso stated.

Ghana Queens OutBlack Queens failed to qualify out of the Group stages

Vice Chairman of the Management Committee for Women’s Senior National team, the Black Queens Salifu Shaibu Zida has disclosed that he wept indoors seeing the team crashed out from the Total Africa Women’s championship.

The Queens following their enigmatic performance to win the WAFU cup in Ivory Coast had believed soared in the team to end the trophyless drought for Ghana when it comes to African cup. However, the Black Queens had to be shown the exit door having claimed 4 points in 3 games in the tournament.

In an exclusive interview with Footballghana.com, Salifu Shaibu Zida, Upper East RFA Chairman, revealed that it was the toughest news he failed to hold on, giving him no option than to lock himself up and share tears in his room.

“It was a tough moment for me, as the vice chairman of the team I was very sad and had to go in my room the very day they[Black Queens] exited. “There was nothing I could do than to share tears,” he said.

“Because I remember when we travelled to Ivory Coast for the WAFU, chairperson [Leanier Addy] and I had a thorough discussion on how to strategize when we come back to play the AWCON and for a very long time qualify to the world cup”.” But all that went waste”.

The defunct GFA ExCO member in notion blamed the Normalization Committee for the abysmal performance by the team which resulted in their early exit from the tournament as well as denying the West Africa country a ticket to France 2019 for the World Cup.

“This can only be kept at the doorstep of the Normalization Committee for refusing to recognize the management of the team even if they are not allowed close to the team. “Things wouldn’t have gone this way, provided the management committee had been contacted”.

“Most of us knew the secret of the team that kept us rising. As it stands, hope in the Queens are lost”.

The senior women’s team since 2007 had not booked world cup slot despite making three appearances in the tournament. They have represented Ghana ten times in the African Women’s Championship since 1991.

Ekwow Spio Garbrah Ndc RaceNDC flagbearer hopeful, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah

A flagbearer aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, is predicting only a one-term tenure for incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo.

In a new slogan he framed for the NDC, Spio-Garbrah said the NDC will certainly return to power.

“Let’s have this new slogan that you will repeat after me. When I say NPP, you will respond one term. When I say Akufo-Addo you say one term. And when I say NDC, you will say we are coming back.”

Spio-Garbrah further said the NPP has been a big disappointment to Ghanaians and as such must not be given another chance.

“We also know that the NPP are failing Ghanianas and we are all witnesses and victims of the high prices that we are suffering these days. Almost everything that you want to buy in Ghana today has gone up many folds. That is why it is important for us to remember that our objective is to mobilize ourselves and prepare ourselves to remove the NPP who are disappointing Ghanaians because they have made several promises and are not fulfilling,” he added.

The NDC aspiring presidential candidate made the statement on Monday, at the 31st December revolution commemoration event held at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

It was on the theme: “Deepening the core principles of good leadership for political governance.”

Spio-Garbrah used the opportunity to also advice supporters of other presidential aspirants to conduct their campaigns in a decorous manner devoid of violence.

“As we move forward, it is important for everyone to remember that the contest of flagbearership is a contest of friends…it’s a family contest. We are appealing to supporters not to create any tension among the flagbearers,” he stated.

The annual 31st December Revolution commemoration event is to remember 31st December 1981, when former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings led a group of soldiers to topple the late President Hilla Liman’s government to form the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC).

Over the years, the commemoration platform has been used by Rawlings, who is the founder of the NDC, to condemn corruption and bad governance at the national level and within his party, the NDC.

Some have also interpreted some of his past criticisms on the platform as an open condemnation of the NDC party especially when it was in power under the leadership of John Mahama.

About the 31st December Revolution

On 31st December 1981, former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings led a group of soldiers to topple the late President Hilla Liman’s government to form the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC).

The PNDC was an amalgamation of the Armed Forces Revolution Council (AFRC) which on 4th June 1978, deposed the Supreme Military Council (SMC) II, and handed over power to Liman’s government after elections.

The PNDC steered the affairs of the country until 1992 when the country was returned to constitutional democracy.

Kobeda Farmers .pngAffected farmers were angry got to know their investments had been ruined

Some farmers at Kobeda in the Ashanti region have lost their farmlands which served as their source of livelihood for decades.

The farmers claimed an unknown private developer cleared their 40-acre farmland which had farm yields, without any notification.

Affected farmers only got to know their investments had been ruined when they went to work on the farms.

Farm produce including cocoa, pawpaw, orange, plantain, cassava and cocoyam were destroyed on the 40-acre land, last week Wednesday.

Despite farming on the land for over thirty years, they were neither notified nor compensated before the farmland was cleared.

“I came to my farm to work when I saw some young men using a bulldozer to clear the entire farm. I confronted them but they ignored me and continued with the destruction. All my investment on my 15-acre cocoa farm is gone now” an affected farmer, Thomas Kwadwo Fosu, told 3news.

“No one informed us about an intended clearing of our farmland for any project. We have been farming on this land for decades, but someone has managed to destroy our livelihood in just a week,” another affected farmer, Yaa Agyeiwaa, lamented.

Caretaker of the Kobeda Stool Lands, Nana Kwaku Nsiah, said the land has not been given out to any private developer.

He accused the Apagyahene, Nana Owusu Afriyie IV, of being behind the sale of the farmland.

“I have not given out the land to any developer nor have I been consulted by anyone to sell the land to any individual or institution.”

When contacted, the Apagyahene admitted ordering the clearing but said the affected farmers have duly been compensated.

Some of the farmers are yet to receive their compensation, he said but assured that they will get their due by next week.

Nana Owusu Afriyie said the land has been released to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for the establishment of an eye and throat training centre.
