The Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) is calling on government to sit up on the fight against corruption as Ghana records its worst performance per the Corruption Perception Index in 6 years.
According to STRANEK, “the timing is so right for the Special Prosecutor along other agencies to look into corruption cases under this government to save this country.”
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Executive Director of STRANEK, Nii Tettey Tetteh.
“Corruption allegations such as the $2.25 billion bond, the BOST saga, the Flagstaff house bribery scandal, the wasteful Army Worms Public Education, the cash for seat saga, the diversion of Premix Fuel, the US$ 2.5 million GPS scandal among many others are enough to cause Ghana to drop in the 2017 corruption perception Index,” STRANEK said in the statement.
They are therefore urging the President to take steps to redeem his promise of fighting corruption and help the dwindling image of the country.
In a related development, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo sworn in Mr Martin Amidu as the country’s first Special Prosecutor.
President Akufo-Addo admonished Mr Martin Amidu not to use his office as an avenue for vengeance against his adversaries but to use it to deal ruthlessly with the soaring state of corruption in public life.
According to him, the overwhelming support Ghanaians have given to Mr Amidu since his nomination through vetting was an indication that Ghanaians have become intolerant with the canker of corruption that has robbed the country of its development.
