The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has officially inaugurated a Youth and Sports Development Sub-Committee to oversee youth and sports development in the area.

The committee consists of veterans like Opoku Afriyie and Opoku Nti who have contributed immensely to football in Ghana.

Members of the committee have been tasked to see to the development of various sporting disciplines and to also unearth talents in the area.

A set of jerseys and footballs were presented to 70 schools and 47 colts football teams who were present at the launch.

Kumasi Mayor Osei Asssibey Antwi, said Kumasi is known to be a haven for outstanding sporting talents.

He said many talented footballers were first discovered in Kumasi however in recent years the neglect of promising stars by stakeholders have resulted in a sharp decline in sports develop.

Mr Antwi said the establishment of the youth and sports development body will help prepare a better future for the youth who are talented in various sporting disciplines.

He added that colts teams in the metropolis will be supported to upgrade the skills of managers.

Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Mr Kojo Baah Agyemang, commended KMA for the establishment of the committee.

He further called on other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDCEs) to emulate the step taken by the KMA.
