G8HEARTS1Hearts will play their home games at the Swedru Sports Stadium

Accra Hearts of Oak have finally settled on the Swedru Sports stadium as their home ground for the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.

The decision appears to have left a few individuals puzzled, with grounds like El Wak and the Tema Sports Stadium viewed as more natural replacements for the Accra Sports stadium which is closed temporarily for renovation work ahead of the 2018 Women’s Afcon.

The club, however, recorded a huge turnout at the 5000 capacity ground following a warm-up match with local side Swedru All Blacks on February 18.

The rousing welcome from the fans coupled with the general readiness of the facility has convinced the management of the club that this could be the best home away from home.

“We have a good number of supporters there. The pitch is okay for us because it is made of grass and not astro. We all know the disadvantages of an astro pitch compared to a grass one.

“When our supporters go to the stadium we want them to feel comfortable. Swedru offers us that level of comfort compared to Tema, where the majority of the fans will have to stand through matches”.

‘We believe that in taking decisions we have to look for a venue that will be suitable for the team and also for supporters,” revealed Kwame Opare Addo, spokesperson for the club.

The new league season is set to kick off on March 2 after the injunction brought against the GFA by Great Olympics was thrown out by an Accra High Court.
