Critism of the practice where prophets publicly announce the deaths of public figures has been growing over the years and has become worse in the aftermath of the death of Dancehall artiste Ebony but Highlife artiste, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah says that isn’t the way to go.

For Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, who has been a victim of such doom prophecies, it is wrong for people to chastise the prophets when they make such pronouncements.

When Showbiz caught up with him at the One Week remembrance of Ebony last Sunday at the St Martin De Porres School, Dansoman, he said it is not anyone’s call to determine who is a genuine or false prophet.

“It is not for one to tell whether the prophet is a true man of God or not because the devil also has power to kill.

I have always told people that the power of God supersedes every power in this world so the most important thing is to seek that power for protection rather than ignore prophecies,” he stated.

One man of God who has received a lot of bashing is the founder of True Word Prophetic Fire Ministry, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, who is said to have prophesied about the deaths of Ebony and Kaakyire Kwame Appiah last year.

Kaakyire followed it up and believes his initiative to meet the man of God saved his life.

“I’m very sad to be here at Ebony’s one week observance because I’m very sure her death could have been prevented.

I’m not saying because I went to meet Prophet Nigel, I will never die. That isn’t it at all but at least, I would have some years to finish my work on earth and not die prematurely.

“It is painful to die at a time when you have so much going for you. That is why I’m encouraging my colleagues to act on these prophecies whether they are genuine or fake,” he said.

The prophecies by men of God have caused panic and anger not only among the entertainment industry’s players but among a large section of the population who believe the prophets are seeking self-glorification.

One man who won’t stand for any doom prophecies is Dancehall bad boy, Shatta Wale.

A few days after Ebony’s death, one Prophet E. K. Mensah of the Christ Vision Prayer Ministry in Kumasi said Shatta was the next to die. He reportedly said the Taking Over artiste won’t live beyond the month of July.

True to form, Shatta Wale vented his anger at such prophets and threatened to burn churches should he live till December and he has also released a song titled True Believers which criticises fake men of God but Kaakyire Kwame Appiah says such actions are unnecessary.

“You lose nothing if you take the necessary steps to avoid the negative pronouncements because you can’ tell the veracity of the prophecy.

Whether it is from God or not, yours is to pray and that is what my colleagues are losing sight of.

I want to use this opportunity to tell them not to discount such prophecies,” he said.
