Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Commission, Egbert Faibille Jnr, has mentioned that the Petroleum Commission is focusing on its mandate since he came into office six months ago.

According to him, it is his dream that the commission set a standard that cannot depart from it.

At the maiden local content procurement conference in Accra, Mr Faibille noted that, prior to his assumption into office, the local content department of the commission was known as the special service directorate with any focus.

“I took it to the board and said I want the people of Ghana to know that apart from the fact that there is a Legislative Instrument (L. I.) that seeks to promote local content, let’s re-designate that special service directorate to Local Content Directorate” he explained.

Mr Faibille further hinted that the whole petroleum commission is understaffed making the contract administrator overworked.

He said he has sought the approval of the board, therefore more people are being recruited.

The local content procurement conference is an event organised by the National Petroleum Commission to share information relating to current and on-going oil and gas projects, upcoming upstream petroleum projects, procurement and contract opportunities, International Oil Companies (IOCs) and ISPs tender requirements and minimizing information asymmetry.

The conference is among others to expose the IOCs operating in Ghana to the existing petroleum laws and their impact on promoting local content in areas which are necessary to be carried out.

Some IOCs which made presentations on the procurement of contracts and their 2018 perspectives during the conference include ENI, MODEC, Springfield, Yinson, Schlumberger, Tullow, among others.
