The presence of the police foiled potential clashes between the feuding chieftaincy factions
The Koforidua high court has postponed ruling on contempt case brought against the Queenmother of Akropong Nana Awo Prah Agyekum.
The case has been adjourned to March 8, 2018.
The Queenmother and other defendants allegedly defied a Court injunction on installation of a New Okuapemhene until final determination of the case by the Regional House of Chiefs.
There was heavy security presence at the Koforidua High Court, Tuesday as usual, when the case was called.
There were more than 30 armed Police personnel made up of SWAT team as well as other National Security operatives who policed the court premises.
The move foiled potential clashes between the feuding chieftaincy factions.
The Okuapemhene Stool has remained vacant three years after the demise of Oseadeeyo Nana Addo Dankwah III, Okuapemanhene due to dispute emanating from the Sakyibea Royal family whose turn to nominate a heir to the vacant stool has not been fulfilled.
Two factions have emerged from the Sakyibea Royal Family and each is claiming to be the rightful gate to select the next Okuapemhene to succeed the late Oseadeyo Addo Dankwah III, who reigned for 41 years before his demise.
Currently, Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo, a 63-year-old retired journalist and businessman and one Nana Kwadwo Kesse have both been clandestinely enstooled as Okuapemhene.
This has led to several clashes and destruction of properties in the Akropong.
History suggests that process of enstooling a chief whenever the stool is vacant has never been peaceful in the last 100 years.
