The Petroleum Commission has held its maiden Local Content Procurement Conference to show its commitment to transparency within the oil and gas sector.

The event which was organized by the Petroleum Commission was held at the African Regent Hotel in Accra on Monday, February 19, 2018.

Addressing industry players at the conference, CEO of the Commission, Egbert Faibille Jnr said, “The Conference is in fulfillment of the commitment of the Board and management of the Commission to ensure transparency in the upstream oil and gas tender process and promote participation of indigenous Ghanaian companies in the provision of goods and services in the sector.”

According Egbert Faibille, the Board of the Petroleum Commission receiving certain complaints from companies who had in mind to do business with the Ghanaian oil and gas sector was one of the reasons the conference was held.

“These complaints range from a lack of business opportunities and accusations of lack of transparency in the award of contracts by the IOCs and Service Companies to mention a few,” he explained.

Some International Oil Companies (IOCs) which made presentations on procurement of contracts and their 2018 perspectives during the conference include ENI, MODEC, Springfield, Yinson, Schlumbereger, Tullow, among others.

Meanwhile, addressing the issue of IOCs and their contribution to development in Ghana, Mr Faibille commended them for their immense help to the Ghanaian society.

The event was also held primarily to share information relating to current and on-going oil and gas projects, upcoming upstream petroleum projects, procurement and contract opportunities, IOCs and ISPs tender requirements and minimizing information asymmetry.
