A 42-year-old farmer who butchered his wife for defying his orders not to attend a wedding ceremony has been sentenced to a jail term of 5 years by the Asamankese Circuit in the Eastern Region.

He was convicted on his own plea of guilty.

The incident occurred Sunday January 28, 2018 at Akyem Akroso near Akyem Oda after a misunderstanding ensued between the couple when the victim defied orders of the convict not to attend a wedding in the area.

The right hand of the victim was almost chopped off after the convict inflicted two deep cuts at the upper and lower part of the hand.

She also suffered deep cutlass wound at her back, mouth, neck and buttocks.

The convict after committing the act, went into hiding but later apprehended by vigilante residents.

The victim, 32 year old Ama Nyarkoa has been on admission at the St.Joseph’s Hospital since the incident, is responding to treatment having gone through multiple surgeries.

Information gathered indicate that about 12 pints of blood had already been infused into the victim to replace the loss blood.

Because she suffered deep cutlass wound on the mouth and head, she couldn’t eat hence was fed through a tube connected to her stomach.

The couple have four (4) children.
