Amidu’s Vetting: Appointments C’ttee to present report on Friday

The Appointments Committee of Parliament is expected to present its report Friday, February 16, 2018 to the plenary for recommendations to have Martin Amidu approved as Special Prosecutor.

Minority Chief Whip Mohammed Mubarak-Muntaka, has disclosed in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM that frantic efforts are being made to have the confirmation done tomorrow [Friday].

There were chorus of commendations pouring in for Amidu for his sterling performance after he survived the grueling 7-hour public hearing exercise on Monday.

The committee by unanimous decision approved the nomination of Martin Amidu for the position of Special Prosecutor moments after his vetting.

Meanwhile, there is a pending suit against the state in the nomination of Mr. Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor, by NDC’s Bolga East MP, Dominic Ayine.

The former deputy Attorney General in a writ filed at the Supreme court argued that by reason of the age of Martin Amidu who’s now 66 years he’s not qualified or eligible to hold that office as Ghana’s first ever Special Prosecutor under Section 13(3) of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2018 Act(959).
