Sawla Police Attack Some residents assault police officers who try to make arrests

Police officers in the Sawla District of the Northern Region have threatened to resign due to the activities of armed robbers in the area.

“If we are not transferred immediately from this district by the authorities, we will be forced to resign,” one of the police officers, who pleaded anonymity, said.

According to the police officers, some suspected armed robbers were arrested and transported to the regional capital in Tamale last year but they were all released later.

They have all returned to the district to threaten the officers and residents.

Recently, some police officers were allegedly attacked by residents of Kporiju, a community in the district when they tried to effect arrest.

They were said to have been hit with sticks.

The irate residents also removed their clothes and seized their raffle.

They allegedly removed a wedding ring of one of the police officers, took their two phones and a bunch of keys.

According to sources, police officers posted to the deprived area lack logistics to boost their work.

They said the lawless armed robbers have become law onto themselves.
