Punish EOCO Boss over invasion of EC office

The National Democratic Congress(NDC)Minority in Parliament says the apology rendered by the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office(EOCO) after his officers attempted to eject a deputy commissioner of the Electoral Commission from her office should not stop government from sanctioning him.

Officers from EOCO on Monday stormed the EC offices in an attempt to throw out Georgina Opoku Amankwa after she went to her office to protest delay in investigating her for alleged embezzlement.

The action by the EOCO which many described as illegal sparked condemnation from a section of the public including the Minority which questioned the legal basis for their intrusion.

The Minority spokesperson on Communications, ABA Fuseini in an interview with Kasapa News said the Minority is convinced that the EOCO’s action was part on a grand scheme by the government to hound the all the Commissioners of the Electoral Commission out of office.

“No action has been taken against the EOCO Boss who went and sat on Madama Georgina Opoku Amankwa’s seat, these apologies are one too many. We should not allow them to take away the need to take action against people who brazenly violate the law. You cannot even enter the premises of the EC without any lawful permission, you cannot enter there by force of arms and go and seize and occupy offices. It is totally unacceptable, we must let action take place so that people will know that they cannot get into infraction with the law in such brazing manner and just issue an apology and think that everything is normal.”
