The National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, is urging Mr. Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu, to display his neutrality in the fight against corruption by first probing the cash for seat saga that has rocked the Ministry of Trade & Industry.
He said even though Mr. Amidu’s competence cannot be questioned, his recent public life has clearly shown that he is bias towards the NDC. Adams, therefore, questioned how independent Mr. Amidu would be in the discharge of his duties.
According to him, despite Mr. Amidu’s bias, the NDC is not afraid of his appointment, stressing that members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) “should rather be worried”.
Adams made this observation in an interview with Kasapa 102.5 FM, Thursday. He was reacting to President Akufo-Addo’s appointment of a former Attorney-General, Mr. Amidu to the position of the Office of the Special Prosecutor. Mr. Amidu’s appointment is subject to the approval of Parliament.
Witch-hunting
He said even though many are of the opinion that the Office of the Special Prosecutor should not be used for witch-hunting, the President strategically selected Mr. Amidu to portray to the world that since he is coming from a different political party, he will be fair in his dealings.
“They intentionally decided to pick someone [Amidu] who is not part of them but who is going to do their bidding for them even worse than someone who is part of them. So, we will wait and see what happens”, he stressed.
Adams therefore urged Mr. Amidu to show interest in the cash for seat saga and probe it to clear doubts in the minds of the people over his appointment.
