AN unidentified driver was on Sunday injured during a robbery operation at Manderegi village, along Abaji- Lokoja highway.
A victim who escaped the attack said the suspected armed robbers numbering about 12, painted their faces with charcoal to disguise themselves and shot severally into the air to force motorists to stop on the road.
He said the driver of a Honda Civic car with registration number AX 529 GME was hit on the head by a bullet, as he tried to reverse after sighting the robbers.
According to him, the driver veered off the road into a bush and the robbers accosted three occupants of the vehicle and robbed them of valuables.
Our reporter observed policemen combing the bush and firing shots in the air.
Abaji Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Sani Umar Paiko could not be reach for comment but a police officer in the station, confirmed the incident and said the driver sustained minor bruises on his head.
He said the robbers fired pellets from a locally made gun, adding that the driver walked to the hospital, got himself treated before continuing on his journey.
The police officer however assured the public that investigation into the incident is ongoing in order to capture the suspects.
