Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is adamant that club captain and top goal scorer, Carlos Tevez will stay at the club this summer and for the length of his whole contract.

Speculation has surrounded the club’s captain in the past few weeks as the Argentine striker yearns to be closer to his family who still live in his native Argentina.

But the Italian is sure that Tevez will stay as he has a contract with the club for next five years.

When asked about his captain’s future the Italian said: “I think that Carlos Tevez will stay here next season. He’s on a five-year contract. It’s simple.”

The club secured automatic qualification for the Champions League with a 2-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers and following on from the team’s first trophy for 35 years Mancini feels this is just the beginning for the team.

Mancini is delighted with the season but was keen to stress that club need to improve further in the summer.

He said: “It’s been a fantastic season. I must thank all the players. I know only one way: work hard. And believe in ourselves, always.

“We need more time to improve though. This is another step – but we want to take more. This is really important. I think this is only the beginning.”
