Edwin van der Sar confirms Champions League final against Barcelona will be his last game for Manchester United

After making his last Premier League appearance against Blackpool, Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar admitted life will be difficult after retirement but vowed he would not be carrying on after Saturday’s Champions League Final with Barcelona.

The Dutchman joined his United team-mates to lift the Premier League trophy after the 4-2 victory over Ian Holloway’s relegated Seasiders and conceded that despite having some moments of doubt this week, the Champions League fixture would be his last.

“You always have second doubts and everything,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s been great but let’s look forward to Saturday and just make sure you win one more game in your life and that will be the end.”

The Dutchman kept 14 clean sheets during United’s title winning campaign to help secure his fourth title at a club which he considers himself fortunate to represent at the age of 40.

“It’s great of course, I had an unbelievable six years and it’s unbelievable at my age and everything to still play for a team like this and it’s really been enjoyable,” he added.

The veteran keeper helped United win their last European trophy by stopping a Nicolas Anelka penalty in a decisive shoot-out against Chelsea and he admitted that adjusting to life without such moments will not be easy.

He added: “It’s going to be difficult of course but there’s going to be other great things opening up but something like this doesn’t come anymore.”
