Judicial Service Workers to strike over unpaid allowances

Workers in the Judicial Service say they may soon hit the streets or go on strike if allowances due them are not paid.

Some of the aggrieved workers, who disclosed this to Adom FM’s Kofi Adoma on condition of anonymity, said there was a serious agitation going on among the workers that could explode if government does not intervene.

According to them, Judicial Service workers in the country have not received their fuel allowances since the beginning of the year and to compound the issue, only workers in five regions have been paid their leave allowances which were supposed to be paid between January and February.

The regions yet to be paid are Eastern, Brong Ahafo, Volta, Ashanti and the Western Regions.

Currently a strike would seriously cripple the justice delivery system that is already burdened by a huge case backlog but the aggrieved workers say they will have no option if that becomes the last resort.

At the beginning of the financial year, the budgetary allocation submitted by the Judiciary to the Executive was slashed down by more than half and that is believed to have accounted for this development.

Meanwhile close sources at the secretariat of the Judicial Service say the problem is one that their bosses are finding very hard to solve.
