Sir Alex Ferguson has condemned the Blackburn fans who have openly criticised manager Steve Kean and declared their actions a sorry reflection of British society.
Kean faced continued protests against his management of the club during a 2-1 home defeat to Bolton which ensured they would be rooted to the foot of the table for Christmas.
“I have never seen anything as bad as that,” Sir Alex told reporters.
“I feel for the lad. I tried to phone him, but he probably quite rightly had his phone switched off.
“For goodness sake, give the lad a break. It doesn’t say a lot for our society.”
Despite continued vocal protests, Kean was handed a new contract by the Indian owners of the club in November and looks set to be entrusted with turning the club’s fortunes around.
Their next two fixtures are away to Liverpool on Boxing day and then Manchester United on New Years Eve. Â
A fans protest at the club’s training ground is expected to be levelled at the owners Venky’s on Friday.
