Lwazi Maziya of Mbabane Swallows
Swaziland’s most supported side Manzini Wanderers rounded off the year in great style on Thursday night, hammering rookies Red Lions 5-0 in a one-sided MTN league clash at Mavuso Sports Centre.
The resounding victory took the ‘Weslians’ to second spot on the log, just a point behind log leaders Royal Leopard who have a game in hand. That match is pending clash against Mbabane Highlanders.
Opening the scoring was defender Lwazi ‘Shana’ Maziya, who headed in a well taken Timothy Mathonsi corner kick in the 20th minute.
Then on-loan Jomo Cosmos striker, Nkululeko Dlamini, made it 2-0 after outpacing the defenders before slicing the ball past the advancing Red Lions ‘keeper Mxolisi Dlamini in the 51st minute.
To rub salt into the wound, Red Lions defender Siphilile Sihlongonyane scored into his own net two minutes later, while trying to clear a Nkululeko cross.
The ‘Weslians’ were not done as Timothy Mathonsi scored the first of his two goals in the 56th minute, taking a pass from Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze before completing his brace in the 60th with a powerful low shot into the far corner of the net.
In the first game at Mavuso Sports Centre, Green Mamba and Young Buffaloes shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
Mamba, the FixedFone Cup finalists, had taken the lead through Muntu Mamba in the 42nd minute only for former Sihlangu midfielder, Manqoba ‘Dunga’ Kunene, to level with 14 minutes to go.
