Mr Ekow Duncan, the Convention People’s Party Shadow Cabinet Member for Political Affairs who is vying for the position of General Secretary has promised to strengthen the party at the constituency level in terms of membership and finance.

He said when given the opportunity he would ensure that members of the party at that level were respected members of the community through their initiatives in employment and income generating activities in the communities,’ he told the Daily Graphic.

‘It is critical in the search for power that the party should have presence in the constituencies, where power is won through an aggregation of electoral victories at that level”.

In the area of organising the party at the constituency level, the CPP has faced some challenges in recent years and while that could partly be attributed to resource constraints, there also appears the challenge of snuffing out apathy and mobilising members to drive the party back into glory.

Mr Ekow Duncan, who is also a member of the Central Committee of the CPP made the presentation on the’ Development Policy Guidelines of the Convention People’s Party’ in the ‘How the CPP Will Do It’ alternative policy presentations.

According to Mr Duncan, he had experience in politics, business, and the bureaucracy.

“I was appointed the Deputy National Treasurer in 2003 and initiated in that capacity, the formation of the Ways and Means Committee. I became the Secretary of the Committee with Dr. Kwabena Duffour as its Chairman,” he told the Daily Graphic.

He recalled that the Committee raised within three months of its existence, one hundred and eighty million old Cedis at the time when we were informed by the Treasurer that the funds in the treasury of the party were two thousand pounds and twelve million Cedis only.

He said the “Ways and Means Committee” has since been adopted as a constitutional committee of the Party.”

He said that his campaign for the position of General Secretary was founded on the need for unity and discipline within the Party.

My theme is ‘Towards a United and Disciplined Party’ This I believe is necessary for the quest for power because no electorate votes into office a disunited and indisciplined party, he told the Daily Graphic.

He said it was his believe that a true reliance on the core values of CPP should unite the party saying “I believe in a movement for social justice as the philosophy for the organisation of our society . I cherish the opportunity to see the ideas of Nkrumah rising for the achievement of economic freedom and an internally sustained economy that creates employment for our people. And in these respects I am a patriot.”

The position of General Secretary is in furtherance of my ambition to have power to translate the ideas of our founder into policies that work for the prosperity of our people, he told the Daily Graphic.

He said ideas without power is lame saying his quest for power provided the motivation and drive to become the General Secretary of the CPP.

I believe that it is the combination of the capabilities of a united party with a single purpose that will achieve this. I believe that experience and maturity should combine with the energies and vigour of the youth to drive our goals.

According to Mr Duncan, it was crtical in the search for power that the CPP should have presence in the constituencies where power was won through an aggregation of electoral victories at that level.

I seek to strengthen the party at the constituency level in terms of membership and finance and also ensure that members of the party at that level are respected members of the community through their initiatives in employment and income generating activities in the communities.

He said that Members of the CPP should be encouraged and motivated to take their destiny into their own hands particularly when “we are out of power because the right wing parties of NDC and NPP are not interested in their welfare but in satisfying the demands of those who feed their corruption. In addition it will serve as a clear demonstration of our commitment and capability in employment creation and promoting prosperity for our people.”

It is my objective as General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party to redirect political debate in the country from insults and personality attacks to focus on economic development policy issues.

We must point out to the electorate that the common development pursuits of the NDC and NPP are chaotic, rudderless, incoherent and the cause of our poverty. Their development policy pursuits are an admixture of spending cuts that makes the Tea Party of the Republican Party envious, combined with tax hikes that angers the same party but marginally and partially un/acceptable to social democrats and an unpatriotic and anti-nationalist sale of public investments that dismantles our manufacturing sector to make us import dependent, scuttles and impedes our industrialisation efforts and creates mass unemployment and poverty among our people., Mr Duncan stated.  Continued…
