Former AFC Leopards secretary general Robert Asembo, former Gor Mahia striker Eric Obura and Kariobangi Sharks FC chairman Nick Mwendwa are the only contenders eyeing the National Executive Committee (NEC) member seat for Nairobi County in the August 13 football elections.
Asembo said he feels he is best suited to contest the seat, owing to his vast experience in football administration achieved during his tenure at AFC Leopards. “I have been in football management as far as I can remember and I believe my contribution will be great in the rejuvenation of football in the country,” said Asembo. “We are looking at a situation where everybody will play his role in this exercise as we seek to eliminate the national shame that our football has been in the past decade.”
While presenting his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral Board, Asembo asked the voters to bring in leaders who will bring the change that everybody wants to see in football management. “Football belongs to the masses,” said Asembo.
Meanwhile, the IEB is expected to finalise the voters register as the country seeks to go into the most controversy ridden elections next month. The elections have so far attracted six aspirants for the chairman’s seat. They are Hussein Mohammed, Sam Nyamweya, Elizabeth Nyambura, FKL chairman Mohammed Hatimy, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier and Twaha Mbarak.
