Midfielder Andre Ayew expertly converted two spot-kicks for Olympique Marseille to win the French Super Cup against pitching him for that role in the Ghana national team.
The 21-year-old scored the penalties in added on time as Marseille came from two goals down to edge league champions Lille 5-4 in Morocco.
The current Black Stars penalty-taker Asamoah Gyan has been inconsistent and he is fondly remembered for his last minute miss against Uruguay in the Fifa World Cup quarter-final match.
Last month, the Sunderland ace missed another spot-kick against South Korea in an international friendly.
At the 2006 World Cup finals, in Ghana’s opener against the Czech Republic, he missed another despite Ghana winning 2-0.
