The Press Union of Liberia has reconstituted four of its Permanent Committees and named a ten-member Committee for the celebration of the 47th anniversary of the Union later this year.
Those appointed to the Membership Committee are: Moses Wenyou, formerly of the defunct Star Radio, Chairman; Winnie Saywah of the Inquirer Newspaper, Secretary; other members of the committee are: Jonathan Paye-Leyleh, Patrick Flomo, Moses Togba and Philip Moore.
The Intellectual Discourse Committee is chaired by Raymond Zarbay of UNMIL Radio with Nat Bayjay of Front Page Africa as Secretary. Members include: Daniel Nyakonah, Zenu Miller, Sorbor George and Carolyn Myers-Zoduah.
In the lead to drafting a collective bargaining agreement and social dialogue on the working condition of journalists, the Union has carefully selected a strong Committee on Welfare to be chaired by Inquirer’s Manager Philip Wesseh and John Forkpa of the Daily Observer as Secretary. Others on the Committee are: Weemon Jallah-Cole Boyce, Rodney Sieh, Ambrose Nmah, Torwon Sulonteh-Brown, Elis Togba, David Targbe and Bruce Boweh.
The President of the Sports Writers’ Association Numennie Williams chairs the Sports & Entertainment Committee while Melody Mezay of RIC serves as Secretary. Members include, Eddie Harmon, Lewis Togba, Linda Barrolle-Saygbe and Lisa Dahn.
Meanwhile, the Union has also named a ten-member Committee to plan and execute activities marking the 47th Anniversary of the Union . Those appointed are: The Manager of the Women Voices Helen Nah, Chairperson; Bernard Waritay, Co-Chair and Bai Best, Secretary. The rest of the members are: Jennie Fallah-Wounuah, Malcolm Joseph, Rose Kaiwuh, Octavin Williams, Augustus Bortue, Siatta Scott-Johnson and Abbas Dulleh.
The Leadership of the Union also appointed two former Financial Secretaries as Internal Auditors. They are, Elise A. Zoker and Zoegar Jaynes.
PUL says the current composition of the Grievance and Ethics Committee headed by Ledgerhood Rennie remains in place as the Union moves progressively towards the launch of the Media Complaints Committee, MCC. Members of the Committee are however urged to renew their commitments to the Committee and remain steadfast in responding to the
many ethical challenges in the media.
Meantime, the leadership invites all those appointed to the various Committees including the Ethics Committee to an orientation meeting on Monday, August 1 at the Union ’s Headquarters on Clay Street beginning at 2pm.
