Detectives in Bomet have mounted a search for burglars who broke into Jamia Mosque Imam’s residential house and fled with money and a TV set yesterday. According to Imam Mohamed Ali, the burglars broke into his house while he was at the mosque. “They gained access to my room after cutting the padlock and took all my clothes, shoes, the TV and a decoder,” said Ali.

Bomet DCIO Ayub Bakari said they have since recovered some of the stolen items at a neigbouring construction site. “We recovered a box containing clothes belonging to Ali in a nearby construction site but we did not arrest anybody in connection with the theft,” said Bakari.

Bakari added that they have received crucial hints that will lead them to arrest the robbers. He said idlers in the town are to blame for the rising insecurity. “We suspect that the increase in the number of youths maneuvering in the town in search of jobs has led to all sorts of frustrations leading others to theft,” added the DCIO.
