Windhoek — President of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) Hidipo Hamutenya maintains that Libolly Haufiku never quit his position as the main opposition party’s director general for administration.

Early this year, New Era reported that Haufiku quit his position as the party’s director general for administration, because of a disagreement over his salary at the party.

Replying to questions at a press conference on Wednesday called by RDP to announce a re-shuffle of its leadership, Hamutenya said Haufiku never resigned but simply wanted ‘breathing space’ to run his businesses.

“He stayed here at the headquarters, and now we said we want him around the country,” Hamutenya said.

Haufiku has obtained a new position.

Announcing the reshuffle, Hamutenya said the RDP National Executive Committee has decided “to reposition some of its cadres with a view to utilising skills and expertise we have more appropriately”.

“We believe that this is necessary to enhance competence and effectiveness of our party’s performance.”

Asser Hidipohamba Sheuyange is the new Director General for Administration.

Libolly Haufiku becomes Secretary for Party Organisation and Political Orientation while the secretary for the Department of International Relations is Kandy Nehova.

He is deputized by Michaela Hubschle.

The rest of the RDP departments are not affected by the changes. These are:

Shapua Kaukungua, who will run the department of the treasury, deputized by Lazarus Uaandja.

Jeremiah Nambinga, will remain head of the Department of Information, Communication Technology and Publicity. He is deputised by Nghiningiluandubo Kashume

Kavemunu Veii heads the Department of Legal and Government Affairs. He is also Chairman of the Party’s Disciplinary and Audit Commission.

Phillemon Kanime deputised by Magnus Nangombe heads the Department of Transport and Logistics while the Department of Economic Planning and Development is headed by Festus Naholo deputized by Nicanor Ndjoze and Desmond Andreas.

Hamutenya remarked that over the last 21 years, the education sector has been failing, so the party was leaving the challenge to women. Mirjam Hamutenya deputized by Canner Kalimba and Dr. Beatrice Sandelowsky head the Department of Education and Training.

Mike Kavekotora heads the Department of Housing and Human Settlements while Kaffer Trogoth will run the Department of Culture, Arts and Sport.
