Wolves‘ new signing Roger Johnson is delighted to have joined the club despite rumours that the top six Premier League clubs were after him, but concedes that he would have loved to join one England’s elite sides.
The former Birmingham defender has made the short move across the Midlands and is elated about being given another crack at the big time, despite it not being at a club in the top six.
He told talkSport’s Drivetime show: “You can take paper talk with a pinch of salt, there was a bit of interest in me if you looked at the papers.
“My agent did say there’s a few club interested and Wolves were the ones that put their money where their mouth is and I’m pleased I’ve made that decision to join them.
“I’ve been here the last two days and it’s been good,” he continued, “the lads have accepted me well, there’s a good bunch of lads here well and I’m really looking forward to working with the manager.
“I’m excited and just want the season to start.”
“I’m not going to lie, of course I wanted one of so-called the top six sides and there were talks of those clubs but as I said there was a lot of umming and arring and Wolves were the ones that made the right noises.
“I’m not going to say I’m disappointed, I’m really pleased I’ve signed for Wolves, I can’t wait to get the league season started and play with them but any footballer will tell you he’d want to play in a top six side, he’s crazy if he doesn’t.
“There were so many positive things to this move, I haven’t got to move and uplift the family which is key for footballers.
“I’m living in the same house, it’s a little bit further to travel but that’s ok and I get to keep my golf membership at the Belfry.”
