The National Leadership of the New Deal Movement (NDM) has announced that it has lifted the suspensions on Ambassador Dew Tuan-Wleh Mayson following series of intensive and critical deliberations and reflections.

According to New Deal release dated July 13th, 2011, the Executive Committee of the party met in an expanded session at the National Headquarters of the party on July 5th, 2011 and unanimously suspended Ambassador Mayson as Standard Bearer of the Movement for time indefinite.

The release said that the action to suspend their Standard Bearer was to ensure internal affairs of the party that needed corrections and adherence.

The New Deal Movement press said that when it conceived its formation as a party, one of the ideas that was considered in the formation of the movement was to break away from the culture of partisans paying loyalty to their Standard Bearers than the party.

The release further said that culture has dominated Liberian politics for time immemorial and it was now time for the Movement to set a distinctive but effective example in Liberian politics that all political parties will follow suit.

The release also noted that such practice has been sprouting around personalities in the country’s political landscape; something the release said was almost becoming a stepping stone for standard bearers as far back as 1847 and somehow continues to present with whatever standard bearers of political parties believed, felt and thought had often become the dominant cultures in party politics.

Even if issue are wrong when personality cult becomes bigger than the institution, patronage politics of unilateralism evolves and the general interest of the institution, especially that of country’s, is jeopardized, hence the New Deal Movement has foreseen and making every effort to contain.

The New Deal Movement reiterated that the suspension was therefore an action to purge unwarranted and unacceptable practices and actions of their Standard Bearer and to bring him to reside on the party’s tradition, philosophy and ideology which the partisans think or feel is a very good example for other parties to emulate as way of building a vibrant democracy in our recovering country.

The Movement stated in the release that the partisans are convinced that they have dished up a caution that nobody is bigger than the New Deal Movement, a move that has set precedence that nobody can take the movement for a ride or breach their tradition.

It stressed that they have fought and won a battle, a foundation so great to prove that the New Deal is a different party established with principles, and certainly a role model for Liberia’s political and economic governance.

The New Deal Movement maintains that the suspension of Mr. Mayson had no sinister or personal motives as is being speculated in some quarters of Monrovia and its environs but as a party that purge itself in the context of institutional discipline.

Meanwhile, the Movement has suspended its Second National Chairman, Nigba Wiaplah and the General Secretary, Worlea Saywah Dunnah for breaching party traditions and fundamentals and acts of incompatibilities. It also said that the party will not play to the gallery but stand tall above the fray to safe guide the interest of their party and the country.

At the same time the New Deal Movement has assured all of its partisans, well-wishers and other partners at home and abroad, that with the lifting of the suspension on Dew Mayson, after the resolution of the issue, they can assure their belief and commitment in the leadership of their Standard Bearer, Ambassador Dew Tuan-Wleh Mayson.

The partisans, in the release said that they will do everything within their reach as a party and as an integrated members of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), to ensure that Mr. may is elected Standard Bearer of the National Democratic Coalition and President of Liberia in the scheduled 2011 Presidential General Elections.
