Prominent Cleric Calls On Urgent Aid for Drought Affected

    Mogadishu — Sheikh Mohamoud Aw-Abdulle Arif, a prominent Somali cleric on Monday called on an emergency aid to the drought-hit Somalis who are overflowing to the capital of the country, Mogadishu.

    The cleric Arif made the announcement in an interview with Shabelle Media Network which is based in seaside capital.

    He said the country is in a very bad condition according to the severe drought that affected many regions in southern and central Somalia.

    Asked about new programmes Shabelle Radio will start to collect aid food and money for the starving people, Sheikh Mohamoud Ow-Abdulle Arif has urged the station to redouble efforts to get help for the needy displaced Somalis.

    The drought forced many people to flee from their regions and towns after their domestic animals died of hunger and thirst, according to recent surveys.
