Windhoek — FNB Namibia, the Davin Sport Trust and WHS officially launched the 4th FNB WHS Davin Sport Festival in Windhoek yesterday.
The main aim of the festival is to provide a platform for Namibian schools to compete against international schools and gain valuable experience.
More than 500 school girls and boys will participate in hockey, tennis, netball and rugby.
Ian Leyenaar, CEO of FNB Namibia in his address, said: “FNB prides itself on having contributed to the elevated standard and excitement of school sport and in having been part of involving the teaching staff and parents in the smart partnership with WHS and the Janine & Suzelle Davin Sport Trust since 2008. ‘
He continued: “We believe that initiatives such as this should be seen as an integral part of the new vision to improve education, the direction which is currently mapped out at the Education Conference in Windhoek.”
He added: “FNB is synonymous with sport support and one typical example of our widened sport sponsorship at school level is the exciting FNB Classic Clashes which includes rugby, soccer and netball.
“The FNB Classic Clashes has ballooned from a mere six matches to an amazing 22 matches this year, moulding young talent in these disciplines and preparing youngsters to proudly represent Namibia in national rugby, netball and soccer reams.”
FNB Namibia has taken their support of the FNB WHS Davin Sport Festival one step further as the FNB Home Loans division is proudly sponsoring a talk by David Grier, an inspirational speaker, celebrity chef.
Author and extreme adventurer who just completed the first ever solo Madagascan challenge – a paddle from Africa to Madagascar (a distance of 500km) and then running the island from south to north, a great distance of 2 700km.
Prior to this, David did the first ever continuous joint run of the Great Wall of China, some 4 000km in 98 days.
He also did the first ever continuous run along the coast of Southern Africa from Oranjemund via Cape Town to Mozambique, 3 300km in 80 days.
