Drogba, Nasri, Modric and more – readers’ transfer questions answered in Goal.com’s Twitter Q&A

Transfer season is in full flow and dominating conversations of all football fans – Goal.com offered readers the chance to gain the inside information on all the transfer news in the Premier League with a Q&A session with our Northern correspondent Greg Stobart.

Our Twitter page was inundated with questions from all across the world, as fans demanded to know what was happening at their clubs.

Q:Will Drogba stay and who are most likely to leave Chelsea? – Vivek Munshi

Greg Stobart:“Chelsea executives have told Drogba they want him to stay for at least one more year, but it is yet to be seen whether Andre Villas-Boas shares their view. The Portuguese is keen to call the shots and he may want to cash in on Drogba to rebuild the team in his own image. Marseille are very eager to bring Drogba back to France and it is hard to see how, at 33, he fits into the club’s plans with Fernando Torres already signed and the likes of Neymar, Romelu Lukaku and Radamel Falcao all in their sights.”

Q:Is Nasri really leaving Arsenal? – Ekpedeme

GS: “I’m not as convinced as many that Nasri will leave Arsenal and I expect this to drag on for a few weeks. It is not just the Manchester clubs who want him, but Arsenal are desperate to keep him and we have a three way battle on our hands. The problem for Arsenal is, this is about money for Nasri and his agents. He wants to be the club’s highest-paid player, he wants the same £110,000-a-week salary that Cesc Fabregas is paid.

Arsenal so far have not been willing to meet his demands but Manchester United will and City could blow both clubs out of the water in financial terms with a weekly wage of as much as £180,000. My gut feeling is that he will probably leave as Arsenal will not want to risk him leaving for nothing in 12 months, but I wouldn’t be totally shocked if the Gunners up their offer and he signs a new deal at Emirates Stadium.”

Q: So since Liverpool missed out on Clichy who should they try and get to help with depth at the back?- Cooper Kimbrell

GS: “The priority in defence for Liverpool is to sign a left-back and I expect them to renew their attempts to sign Jose Enrique from Newcastle after missing out on Clichy. Newcastle are determined to hold out for £10m, which is an awful lot for a player with one year left on his contract, but Liverpool have to upgrade in the position this summer. Kenny Dalglish also wants a centre-back and, after missing out on Phil Jones, Birmingham defender Scott Dann is supposed to be his leading target.”

Q: Where will Samba and Cahill be playing next season? – Arif Faiz

GS: “Cahill is extremely likely to be playing for Arsenal; Samba’s most likely destination is also the Gunners but there is interest from other clubs (including Tottenham) and Blackburn want big money for their captain after selling Phil Jones to Manchester United.”

Q: Do you think Defoe will really join Arsenal? – Silas Korir

GS:“I don’t think there is any chance Defoe will join Arsenal. Put it down as wishful thinking from the player and his representative (who used to play for Tottenham). Having said that, Spurs are ready to listen to offers for the England striker.”

Q: Any update on Modric leaving Tottenham? Or Levy really won’t let him go? – Faiz Arsyad Wahab

GS: “There is no news on the Modric situation, although Spurs were a bit puzzled last week that he didn’t release an apologetic statement for declaring his desire to leave. Talks are planned between Modric, his agent and Daniel Levy next week in which the Spurs chairman will reiterate his strong statement in which he said the player is not for sale ‘at any price’. I’ve been told all along that Levy means it this time and with Modric under contract until 2016, the club have the power.

Modric’s only options now are to hand in a transfer request (which will be rejected) or to go on strike (which is not in his nature). Chelsea have not made a second bid despite certain people leaking an ‘imminent’ improved offer last month; which suggests the Blues are re-assessing where they go from here.”

Q: What are the chances of Manchester united signing a central midfielder? If so who is the most likely to fit the bill? – Venkata Subramanian

GS:“If I was a Manchester United supporter, I would be starting to worry a little about whether Sir Alex Ferguson will sign a central midfielder this summer. United know how badly they need a creative fulcrum to replace Paul Scholes but Ferguson may decide to make do for a year if he is not happy with the options available. The player United really wanted was Luka Modric but they accept that it will be extremely difficult to sign the Croatian this summer. Samir Nasri could be the answer but his experience in central midfield, particularly in a 4-4-2, is rather limited. Wesley Sneijder is certainly a target but extremely expensive because of his massive wages while Charlie Adam, who was a back-up option, looks like he’s going to Liverpool.”
