Kenya: Telkom Orange Tighten Grip On League Leadership

Defending champions Telkom Orange tightened their grip on the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) League with a 4-0 drubbing of Strathmore University at the City Park. Betty Tiony broke the deadlock barely minutes into the match.

Strathmore were equally entertaining to watch but their finishing was bad. Telkom extended the lead 18 minutes inside the second half through Jackline Jow, who added her second goal five minutes later. Jacqueline Atieno capped a good outing with a 66th minute goal.

In the men’s match, Kenya Police beat a hapless Western Jaguars 8-1 at the same venue. Felix Okoth opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Nelson Ochieng extended the lead with three minutes to the break. Oliver Echenje made it 3-0, just a minute into the second half while James Munyi was at it three minutes later.

Willis Okeyo extended the lead in the 52nd minute before Okoth secured a brace six minutes later. In the last quarter, Jaguars tried a comeback which saw John Rioba pull one back in the 65 minute. However, this was quickly cancelled out by Roy Odhier two minutes later. With ten minutes to go, Munyi added his second wrap up the rout. Parklands beat JKUAT 3-2 in another entertaining encounter with goals from Eric Odendo, Fred Okeyo and Felix Opala. JKUATS scored through Giles Simiyu and Ken Maruru.
